(NECN) - Emergency crews responded to a massive 5-alarm fire at the Merrimack Paper Mill in Lawrence, Mass. Monday afternoon and into the evening.

Authorities say fire departments from Andover, Methuen, Dracut, North Andover, North Reading and Salem, N.H. are assisting at the scene.

Lawrence Police say the fire at the mill, which is on Merrimack Street, also affected traffic because of smoke. According to authorities, traffic is backed up at the Methuen and Lawrence line on 495, and authorities have closed Falls Bridge on Route 28 and Central Bridge.
