Officer in S.C. Shooting Fired; Mayor Orders Body Cams

North Charleston has ordered 250 body cameras for its police force after a white officer was captured on camera shooting and killing an apparently unarmed black man, the South Carolina town's mayor said at a tense press conference Wednesday. The officer, Michael Slager, was fired after he was charged with murder in the shooting death of Walter Scott, Mayor Keith Summey said. Every North Charleston officer on the street will wear a body camera after a policy is established and the force is trained in their use, Summey said. The contentious press conference was interrupted several times by protesters, who shouted "No justice, no peace!" City councilman Bobby Jameson criticized protests and said the city should support the "hard-working officer" facing a murder charge.
