(NECN: Justin Michaels, Avon, Mass.) - Massachusetts State Police are investigating a shooting involving two officers.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday night in Avon, Mass.

Police were working to locate a man who was reportedly distraught and likely armed.

Police say the Gene Guilbeault, 48, of Bridgwater met officers at a Dunkin Donuts parking lot. After a brief verbal interaction, he reportedly drove his truck at the troopers.

That's when the officers opened fire, and Guilbeault reportedly continued to drive forward and rammed the cruiser of another trooper.

The trooper's cruiser sustained significant damage, but the officers were not hurt.

NECN Reporter Justin Michaels caught up with a man who woke up to the sound of the commotion:

"I heard all the popping from the gun fire and I heard something come through the cab and I got down and when all the popping stopped I looked up and out the window and I saw what was going on," Truck Driver Tom Fisher said.

Guilbeault was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, where, under police guard, he was treated for superficial injuries and discharged.

He was taken to the State Police Barracks in Milton, where he was booked on charges related to the assault.

Guilbeault was expected to be arraigned Thursday in Stoughton District Court.
