AG Unveils New Limits on Profiling by Federal Law Enforcement

The Justice Department on Monday formally announced a long-awaited revision to limits on profiling by federal law enforcement agencies, NBC News reported. The revised limits add several new categories and ban profiling on the basis of gender, national origin, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity, in addition to the current profiling rules that apply only to race and ethnicity. The Justice Department says the revision goes beyond what is otherwise required by federal law. The new policy will apply to several components of the Department of Homeland Security, including ICE and the Coast Guard, but not to airport screening or scrutiny of travelers arriving at the border.
