Nelly Carreño



Nelly Carreño joined NECN in October of 2010 as the 9am and noon meteorologist. 
She is a three-time Emmy winner who has covered hard news, entertainment, and weather in the last 10 years.

Nelly started her career in 2001 at KTXS NEWS in Abilene, Texas. In 2002 Carreño accepted a job in Amarillo where she anchored the morning and noon shows. With a lifetime of fascination and interested of weather driving her, Nelly became the weekend weather anchor and entertainment reporter for Telemundo/NBC in Dallas, Texas in 2005.

Thereafter, Nelly accepted an opportunity with Accuweather in State College,  Pennsylvania where she learned from some the most accomplished forecasters and meteorologists in the business. In 2007, Nelly was named Chief Meteorologist for WSNS/Telemundo in Chicago, also appearing on their sister station WMAQ/NBC some weekends.

Her educational background includes a B.A. in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin with an emphasis on Broadcast Journalism. She also has a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University's three-year program.

Nelly was born in Mexico City, raised in Texas, and has lived in 5 different states. She is fluent in Spanish, loves to dance and is an avid poker player.
