Market Analysis: Stocks reach new highs for 2013

(NECN) - Although tech stocks had an off-day, the Dow and several other indexes reached a new high for 2013 Tuesday, and many are approaching all-time highs.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 47 points to close at 14,018. The Nasdaq Composite lost five and a half points, finishing at 3,186. The S&P 500 rose two points to end at 1,519.

Rick Winters is vice president at Adviser Investments in Newton, Mass., and joined NECN Business from the newsroom with more on Tuesday's numbers and what investors are looking for in President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.
