Lockdown at Springfield, Mass. hospital ends in suicide

(NECN: Justin Michaels) – According to police, a standoff at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. ended just after midnight after a long negotiation ended with the suspect fatally shooting himself in the head.

In total it was a more than four-hour standoff in a hospital parking lot.
The 54-year-old man was pronounced dead around 12:25 Wednesday morning.

Springfield Police say the man shot his wife in West Springfield Tuesday night after an argument and brought her to the emergency room. He then returned to his car and pointed a gun at his head.

The woman is in good condition and is expected to recover.
No hospital patients or employees were in danger.
The man's name has not been released.
