Tornadoes, Grapefruit-Sized Hail Pummel Midwest

A monster storm peppered a 1,500-mile arc of the Midwest with 10 reported tornadoes, grapefruit-sized hail and winds of up to 80 mph Wednesday — and forecasters warned millions of Americans should brace for a second round Thursday. Stretching from Texas up to the Great Lakes and down to North Carolina, the storm system has the potential to be the biggest severe weather event so far this spring, according to The Weather Channel. Hail as big as 4 inches in diameter smashed buildings and cars, and high winds tore off roofs and downed trees, as the widespread storms hit 12 states. Many of the same areas hit Wednesday could likely endure another round of severe weather. As the storm moves east, areas in the highest danger for Thursday included Chicago, St. Louis and the Great Lakes.
