Vermont State Police Arrest 2 DUI Suspects

Vermont State Police arrested two suspects on multiple charges following a traffic stop early Sunday morning.

Around 1:14 a.m., troopers stopped a vehicle on Interstate 91 northbound in Rockingham after the motorist allegedly traveled 106 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.

While speaking with the motorist, 35-year-old Erik Polite of Flushing, New York, troopers determined he had been consuming intoxicants. Polite exited the vehicle and the passenger, 34-year-old Leeshawn Baker of Flushing, New York, put the car into gear. He allegedly crossed two lanes of traffic in reverse and struck the center median.

During a consented search, troopers recovered 10 grams of cocaine, 79 Oxycodone pills, and 50 Percocet pills from the vehicle.

Polite was charged with DUI, gross negligent operation, excessive speed, possession of cocaine, and possession of narcotics. In addition, Baker was charged with DUI, gross negligent operation, and possession of narcotics. Both men are being held on bail at Southern State Correctional Facility.
