Violent standoff in Fairfield, Conn. ends

(NECN) - A standoff that forced the evacuation of several units at a Fairfield, Conn. apartment complex has ended.

According to police, it all started at a home on Sunnyridge Avenue just after 8 p.m. Saturday night, when the suspect hit his girlfriend in the head with a gun and threatened to kill her.

Police say the man barricaded himself inside the home once the woman escaped.

Officers surrounded the home and evacuated more than 20 nearby apartment units.

Police were unable to get in contact with the suspect.

He reportedly killed himself.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
