WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) - Police say a pedestrian has died after he was struck by a car in southwestern Connecticut.

Westport police say 68-year-old Fairfield resident Bruce Tabackman was struck at around 6 p.m. Saturday. Authorities say they arrived to find him lying on a Westport road next to the vehicle that hit him. Tabackman was taken to Norwalk Hospital, where he later died.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Tabackman wasn't in a crosswalk when the vehicle struck him. The driver wasn't hurt.

Police are investigating.
