(NECN: South Boston, Mass.) - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

There are politicians galore in South Boston, Massachusetts on this St. Patrick's Day -- for the annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast.

The gathering is traditionally an excuse for the state's top politicians to trade bad jokes and test their vocal skills with Irish songs.

There is a new host for this year's event -- South Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan. He takes over for State Senator Jack Hart, who resigned from Beacon Hill.

In this clip, Linehan gets the festivities started by singing "Southie is My Home Town" and voicing his gratitude for the opportunity to host the event.

Southie is also the hometown of St. Vincent's Church, whose Father Joe White delivers the breakfast's invocation.

Linehan's brother, Tom, sings the National Anthem.
