(NECN: South Boston, Mass.) - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

There are politicians galore in South Boston, Massachusetts on this St. Patrick's Day -- for the annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast.

The gathering is traditionally an excuse for the state's top politicians to trade bad jokes and test their vocal skills with Irish songs.

There is a new host for this year's event -- South Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan. He takes over for State Senator Jack Hart, who resigned from Beacon Hill.

In this clip, Ed Flynn, the chief marshal for the St. Patrick's Day Parade, leads the room in the Pledge of Allegiance. Also, State Rep. Hank Naughton honors Flynn with the flag.

Both men pay tribute to veterans and to the military men and women that gave their lives for their country.
