(NECN) - Momentum in the case of a missing Brown University student continued to build Saturday when it was announced the FBI was joining the investigation in Providence, R.I.

Sunil Tripathi, 22, was last seen Saturday March 16 on the east side of Providence around 11 a.m. According to his family, Tripathi was wearing blue jeans, a black Eastern Mountain Sports ski jacket, glasses and a Philadelphia Eagles wool hat. His family says Tripathi is 6 feet tall and weighs 130 pounds.

In a statement, the family says while the search is focused on the Providence area, they're expanding their search to Boston, Connecticut, New York and Philadelphia.

The FBI is joining the Providence police and the Brown University Department of Public Safety in the search.

Providence police ask that if you have any information about Tripathi's whereabouts or regarding his disappearance to call them at 401-641-8691.
