Report: Brookline Considering Seizing College's Land for New Elementary School

A small Massachusetts college is facing a possible standoff with the town of Brookline after officials reportedly told the college the town may seize land by eminent domain to build a new elementary school.

Pine Manor College president Tom O'Reilly told the Boston Globe he was called by a town official who said that the town may take up to seven acres of the college's campus to build its ninth elementary school.

O'Reilly said his college wasn't interested in a "land deal," but town officials haven't ruled out eminent domain, either, should several other sites fall through.

"It's a last resort, but it's a tool in our arsenal, and if we have to use it we have to use it," Brookline Board of Selectmen Chairman Neil Wishinsky said to the Globe.
