(NECN) -  In Lawrence Superior Court in Lawrence Mass., the trial begins Tuesday for former Mayor William Lantigua's former chief of staff.
Leonard Degnan faces charges of solicitation of a bribe, extortion and conspiracy.
Prosecutors say he pressured a city trash contractor to donate a truck to a town in Lantigua's native Dominican Republic.
Degnan allegedly threatened to void the man's contract "without cause" if the garbage truck wasn't donated.
Degnan has denied the charges.
