Suspect in custody after student stabbed at Cambridge, Mass. high school

(NECN: Greg Wayland, Cambridge, Mass.) - Police in Cambridge, Mass. confirm a suspect is in custody after a stabbing at a high school.

Two students were involved in the stabbing at the Rindge and Latin High School. The victim received a stab wound to the shoulder and was transported to a hospital.

According to school officials, the stabbing took place during a history class.

"Early this morning, there was a physical altercation between two female students during a first-block class," said Principal Damon Smith. "The altercation was quickly subdued, but during the altercation, one student was injured with a kitchen utility knife."

Smith said the injured student received stitches and was released from the hospital.

The suspect was taken into custody and the weapon has been secured.

The stabbing stemmed from an overnight argument that continued into the morning.

The names of the students have not been released and an investigation is in process.
