Autism researcher seeks students for therapy work

Apr 4, 2012 4:01am

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A University of South Carolina psychology professor who studies autism is trying to raise awareness about the disorder.

Jane Roberts is speaking Wednesday on the Columbia campus to share information about the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders and invite college students to learn about the need for therapists.

The therapists work with autistic children to build their social, speech and physical skills through play and other kinds of interaction.

Roberts is working with the South Carolina Autism Society and the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs to bring attention to the issue. April is national Autism Awareness Month.
