CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Gov. Maggie Hassan is proclaiming April "Donate Life Month" in New Hampshire.

She's joining people personally touched by organ or tissue donations at the State House on Friday to encourage people to register as organ and tissue donors.

The New England Organ Bank says the month commemorates those who have received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants as well as the families of individuals who chose to be donors.

In 2012, over 640 lives were saved in New England because of the generosity of individuals who became organ donors. Thousands more lives were enhanced through the gift of tissue donation.
