(NECN: Jennifer Eagan, Bedford, N.H.) - Police in Bedford announced two suspects are in custody in the case of a home invasion and gruesome attack in this quiet New Hampshire town.

Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski told reporters Charles Normil, 32, was already in the custody of authorities in Massachusetts when information led investigators to him for the Nov. 24 home invasion at 7 Proclamation Court.

Police revealed Friday that no connection between the suspects and the homeowners has been uncovered. Instead, authorities say the luxurious home of Dr. Eduardo Quesada and his wife, Sonia, was targeted because of its location.

The two thieves were motivated by money, initially setting out to steal from the million dollar home, but police say Dr. Quesada and his wife came home while the burglary was in progress. While their 2-year-old daughter was left unharmed, both husband and wife were seriously injured.

"Dr. Quesada was stabbed in the head multiple times with a screw driver resulting in facial fractures, lacerations, and brain injury.  Mrs. Quesada was sexually and physically assaulted which resulted in the loss of sight in her left eye amongst other serious injuries," said Chief Bryfonski.

Two suspects are in custody, but investigators only named one of them at Friday’s press conference. Chief Bryfonski says Normil and another man in federal custody are being charged in the crime. Bryfonski declined to name the second suspect, saying it is a federal matter.

Both of the Quesada’s survived the attack at their home, but in a strange twist in the case, Sonia Quesada was found dead at her mother-in-law’s home in January. Police say Dr. Quesada was unconscious and a pile of prescription drugs were discovered nearby. Police have maintained the home invasion and Quesada’s death are unrelated and her death is not a homicide.

Normil has been charged in a similar crime in Massachusetts. The Essex County District Attorney’s Office says Normil allegedly broke into an apartment in Methuen in December and assaulted a woman. Normil is being held at the Essex County House of Correction.
