(NECN: Josh Brogadir, Bedford, N.H.) - The home invasion case last November has long been shrouded in secrecy - an unsettling mystery for people who live in Bedford.
Friday, police announced the arrest of two suspects, with one being a repeat offender and already in custody.
A man, identified by police as 32-year-old Charles Normil, walked through an apartment door, as caught on a surveillance camera, his face clearly visible before he pulls a mask over his head. Then he allegedly beat a woman with a handgun, tried to rob her, and took off.
This is the same masked man now arrested in the savage beatings of anesthesiologist Dr. Eduardo Quesada and his wife Sonia in their Bedford, N.H. home on Nov. 24, 2012.
Only this video, is from Methuen, Mass. three weeks after the New Hampshire crime, posted on YouTube by Methuen police.
"We received a tip almost immediately. We ended up identifying the subject in the tape as Charles Normil," said Det. Lt. Jim Jajuga Jr. of the Methuen Police Dept.
A tip also led New Hampshire investigators to the Lawrence, Mass. man, following nearly five months of grave concern for the Quesadas and for people who live in this Manchester suburb.
"It's definitely a relief, I think in town it was sort of, stories were going around and around of what was going on but it's nice to finally have some definitive answers," said Karen Pepin of Bedford.
For the first time we learned the extent of the attack, at a large home which authorities say was targeted for money.
Although the couple's 2-year-old daughter was unhurt that night, her parents lives changed forever.
"Dr. Quesada was stabbed in the head multiple time with a screw driver, resulting in facial fractures, lacerations, and brain injury. Mrs. Quesada was sexually and physically assaulted which resulted in the loss of sight in her left eye amongst other serious injuries," said Bedford, NH Police Chief John Bryfonski.
In a sad twist in January, police responded to Dr. Quesada's mother's condo.
Sonia Quesada was found dead, Eduardo Quesada unconscious, with prescription pills nearby.
Back at the Methuen apartment building, the victim of the second attack is still recovering, her neighbors pleased to hear about the break in the Bedford case.
"That's good, I'm glad. I hope they fry his butt, because I think that's horrible," said Jennifer Barden.
Normil was also arrested in Rye, N.H. in 2009, sentenced to three and half to seven years.
He is now held at the Essex County House of Corrections and will be extradited to New Hampshire.
Another man was also arrested, but authorities would only say he is in federal custody.
