(NECN: John Monahan, Fitchburg, Mass.) - An accidental shooting in Fitchburg has left a 16-year-old Leominster boy in the hospital with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Police say that just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, a gun went off at 152 Meadowbrook Lane, injuring the boy with what appears to be an accidental and self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities arrested Luis Robles, 25, and Efrain Molina, 24, in relation to the shooting, charging them both with unlawful possession of a fire arm. Police don't know if there will be any additional charges.

"Right now, we are confident this was a very serious situation that obviously could have had more dire results," said Chief Robert Demoura.

The victim was taken to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, and is expected to make a full recovery.

The shooting is still under investigation.
