(NECN) - A former classmate of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev joined NECN to talk about what he remembered about his former classmate.

“I was pretty surprised. I’ve known this kid since elementary school,” said the classmate.

The classmate’s identity was not revealed, but he says that he knew Tsarnaev since elementary school.

He said that Tsarnaev was a nice kid in school, but that he did not know his older brother, who was identified as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed Friday morning in a shootout with police in Watertown, Mass.

“I wasn’t super close to these guys but I never would have expected it was of that caliber,” said the classmate.

He said that there were no red flags, which really surprised him.
