(NECN: Greg Wayland, Boston) - It's been an emotional day Monday, as many people returned to work and school in Boston for the first time since the bombings.
Many have been paying tribute at the makeshift memorial set up near the crime scene.
This is a place where many are reduced to silence because they can’t find the words to say anything or describe what has happened.
Instead of words, there are flowers, American flags, sneakers, crosses for the deceased and words on paper.
At 2:50 p.m. Monday, there was a moment of silence.
At the memorial, the moment of silence stretched in to 10 minutes.
