(NECN) - Retired Brigadier General Kevin Ryan from the Belfer Center for science and international affairs at Harvard joined NECN to discuss what will be taken into consideration when understanding the motive behind the Boston Marathon bombing.

Ryan says the authorities are trying to find out if the brothers were working alone or as part of something bigger.

Ryan says Islamic radicalism is something that has remained though the creators of it have passed, and that the goal is finding out how to stop more of it from spreading.

“Islamic radicalism is an ideology,” said Ryan.
