University of Massachusetts Announces Finalists for System's Presidency

Former congressman and current UMass-Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan and John Quelch, a Harvard Business School professor, have been named finalists for the presidency of the University of Massachusetts system.

The search committee announced the finalists Thursday.

The five-campus system's trustees are scheduled to meet Friday and could select either Meehan or Quelch to replace current President Robert Caret, who is stepping down to become chancellor of the University of Maryland system.

Meehan, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has been chancellor of the Lowell campus since 2007.

Quelch is a professor of business administration at Harvard and the former dean, vice president and professor of international management at China Europe International Business School.

UMass has campuses in Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth and Lowell and a medical school in Worcester.
