(NECN/KCOY: Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif) - Crews at Vandenberg Air Force Base are celebrating a successful rocket launch.

The Minotaur IV blasted off Friday afternoon from the Central Coast.

Its payload is a hyper-sonic technology vehicle that will fly within the earth's atmosphere to a broad-ocean impact point in the Marshall Islands.

The launch will let crews know more about aerodynamics, high-temperature materials and advanced guidance control.
