(NECN) -   The Rhode Island Senate is ready to vote on whether the state should join the rest of New England in allowing same-sex marriage.
Supporters are optimistic it will pass in the senate.

It has already passed in the house - and is supported by Governor Lincoln Chafee.
Nine states and the District of Columbia have already passed laws to allow gay marriage.
