(NECN) -  We now know what caused that series of massive explosions aboard several natural gas barges in Mobile, Ala.
Coast Guard officials believe a spark ignited the initial explosion during a routine cleaning operation aboard one of the barges.
The fire then spread and triggered subsequent explosions on nearby vessels.
Three workers were burned in the explosion and reportedly remain in critical condition.
