(NECN: Katie Daly) - Worcester, Massachusetts police are searching for a suspect involved in a fatal hit and run accident. Police say a 73-year-old man is dead after being hit by a truck Monday.

Worcester Police are looking for the person who was driving this truck early Monday evening. Police say the damage to the front end of the truck is evidence that the driver was involved in a fatal hit and run accident.

Police were called to this intersection on Burncoat Street just after 6 pm on Monday. 72-year-old Robert Quist of Worcester was found trapped inside his car. He was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Witnesses say the driver of the truck fled the scene after slamming into Quists' car.

Police say the suspect abandoned the truck here on Dixon Street just after the accident occurred. This residential neighborhood is just a few miles from the scene.

Tuesday investigators searched the truck and conducted several interviews. Police say they believe they know who is responsible but have yet to make an arrest.
