(NECN: Deanna Morgan, Boston) - Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was honored at the JFK Library on Sunday.

She was presented with the annual Profile in Courage Award.

The award is given every year to public servants who have made courageous decisions without regard for their personal or professional consequences.

Giffords was seriously wounded in a shootout in Tucson, Arizona more than two years ago, and has been a strong supporter of stricter gun control measures ever since.
