(NBC/NECN: Brian Mooar) - Israel's air strike on Syria this week increases pressure on the United States to provide more help to Syrian rebels and rein in the fighting.

But lawmakers in favor of more direct action and aid acknowledge the very real possibility that helping the rebels might also be helping Islamic extremists who could continue their fight long after the Assad regime crumbles.
