Gay, lesbian households increase in Okla.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma was one of the first state to ban gay marriage, but new U.S. Census figures show that the number of residents who say they're living with their same-sex partner increased dramatically over the past decade.
The 2010 Census results released Thursday show that 4,393 male respondents said they were living with a male partner. This is a 56 percent increase over the 2000 Census.
The number of women who said they were living with female partners jumped more than 83 percent.
The increase mirrors the trend nationwide and gay rights advocates say it reflects a growing acceptance of the gay community.
Gay rights groups in Tulsa and Oklahoma City campaigned aggressively to get gay, lesbian and transgender residents to declare their status in the 2010 Census.
