GILA BEND, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say two Border Patrol agents are dead after a freight train hit their SUV while they were helping in a pursuit of suspected illegal immigrants in Arizona today.

The crash happened near Gila Bend, about 85 miles southwest of Phoenix.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio (ahr-PY'-oh) says the FBI will be taking over the investigation.

Television video shows a lengthy freight train with what appears to be a mangled sport utility vehicle in front of the train's engine. The train pushed the SUV down the tracks before coming to a rest.
