Investigation underway after man struck, killed by vehicle on highway

WAKEFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts State Police say a 39-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while walking on Interstate 95.

State police say the Gloucester man was hit by a box truck Monday afternoon on I-95 near the Route 129 on-ramp in Wakefield.

The driver of the box truck remained on the scene until troopers arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. State police have not released his name, pending notification of his family.

It's unclear why the man was walking in the roadway. State police continue to investigate.
