(NECN) - What impact will Tim Murray's departure have on both the political scene and day to day operations on Beacon Hill?

Here to explain is Maurice Cunningham, associate professor of political science at UMass Boston.

He thinks it was an opportunity that presented itself in a timely fashion.

“Let’s face it, if it’s not the direct cause, the political troubles set these things in motion,” said Cunningham.

He said that Murray’s position is whatever the governor would make it, but that Murray was busy with local officials, transportation and veterans, and that those constituencies will miss Murray.
