(NECN) - Memorial Day is a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

Monday in Boston, local heroes are being remembered.

The 45th Annual Memorial Day Service is being held at the Gardens at Gethsemane.

State Senator Mike Rush is expected to give the keynote address.

Guest speaker, Brigadier General Leonid E. Kondratiuk will speak on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

The ceremony gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
