The boys' varsity basketball coach and dean of students at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, has resigned after allegations surfaced that he sent inappropriate messages to a former student on Snapchat.
Richard Nault's resignation, effective April 26, was announced by a school spokesman on Friday.
Central Catholic President Christopher Sullivan said he accepted Nault's resignation "with regret," in a statement emailed to alumni on Friday.
"Over recent months, Mr. Nault engaged a recent graduate and alumna of Central Catholic on a social media site, a practice that cannot be tolerated at our School," Sullivan said. "This lapse of good judgment is the only incident or violation of the School's faculty code by Mr. Nault in the eleven years he has been employed at Central. Mr. Nault has been forthcoming throughout the entire process."
Nault, a 1990 Central Catholic graduate, led the boys' basketball team to state championships in 2008 and 2010.
His resignation comes two weeks after an administrator at Central Catholic was fired following rape allegations. A member of the school's class of 2008 told school officials that he was drugged and raped in 2006 by school administrator Andrew Nikonchuk. No charges have been filed, but police and the district attorney are investigating.
A third Central Catholic staff member was also placed on leave last week, though that employee's name and the allegations against them have not been released by the school.
