6 former UMaine women going to Hall of Fame

ORONO, Maine (AP) — Six former University of Maine women's basketball stars and coaches will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.

The six will be formally inducted June 22.

They include former student-athletes Jamie Cassidy, Heather Ernest, Emily Ellis and Amy Vachon, along with former coaches Joanne P. McCallie and Sharon Versyp.

Cassidy ranks third in Maine's all-time scoring list and fourth in rebounding. Ernest was a two-time America East Player of the Year.

Ellis led the Black Bears in rebounding two of her four years. Vachon led the Black Bears to four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

McCallie guided the Black Bears to seven straight 20-win campaigns. Versyp's teams won three-straight America East regular season championships, 2003-2005, and in 2004 also won the America East Tournament title.
