(NECN: Melissa Toupin, Worcester, Mass.) - Brittany Keil turned her dream into a reality when she made the Holy Cross basketball team in 2003. But her athletic career wasn't all fun. She was plagued by one injury after another.

According to Marc Price, an orthopedic surgeon, Keil's story is not uncommon. Over the past few years he says he's seen a significant rise in the number of athletes coming in for overuse injuries, more and more of them specializing in a single sport.

Price says young athletes who only play one sport are putting their bodies at risk.

He says their bodies become unbalanced since they are not working different muscle groups, making young athletes more likely to get injured.  And the problem, Price says, is most ignore the warning signs.
