BOSTON (AP) — Two weeks before Election Day, Massachusetts Republican Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez is finally getting some help.

A pro-Republican group created by the treasurer for former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says it is making "a significant ad buy" in the special election to replace John Kerry. Officials who track political advertising say the television ads, about $700,000 worth, are set to begin running on Friday.

The super PAC, called Americans for Progressive Action, was created a week ago. The treasurer is listed as Nancy Watkins, of Florida, who was the treasurer for Bachmann's 2012 presidential bid.

Outside groups supporting Democrat Ed Markey have been pouring money into the race, but Americans for Progressive Action's investment is the first major play by outside groups on the Republican side.

The special election is set for June 25.
