Iraqi Shiites Volunteer to Fight Against ISIS Militants

Hundreds of young Iraqi Shiites volunteered to fight against al-Qaida linked militants after Iraq’s senior Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani, issued a call to arms. "People who are capable of carrying arms and fighting the terrorists in defense of their country...should volunteer to join the security forces to achieve this sacred goal," said Sheikh Abdulmehdi al-Karbalai, delivering Sistani's message. Meanwhile, Iraq's second biggest city, Mosul, has fallen under Islamic sharia law and militants from the al-Qaida group ISIS have decreed that women must wear the veil, and it has outlawed freedom of religion.
