A former Falls Village, Connecticut, man held on nearly $1 million bond following charges related to a car chase last year through four towns, a stolen car and drunken driving is to be sentenced in May to at least five years in prison.
The Republican-American reports that Anthony Machia pleaded guilty Tuesday under the Alford Doctrine to larceny and operating under the influence, evading responsibility and violating conditions of release. Under the Alford Doctrine, a defendant disagrees with the prosecution's version but admits evidence could be enough for a conviction.
With credit for time already served and if he meets criteria to serve half his sentence, Machia could be free by the summer of 2016.
Michelle Lettieri, a spokeswoman for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, said the plea deal is disappointing.
