(NECN: Eileen Curran) – Our New England getaway isn’t going too far from Boston, but you still need to get on a boat.

Eileen Curran has a look at what’s new about the Boston Harbor Islands

On a day like Friday, there’s no better place to be than out on the water in Boston Harbor, and there are 34 islands out there to explore, enjoy and even get a history lesson on.

The islands are a great getaway, as well as a quick and affordable one.

“A fabulous resource for residents of greater Boston. Just a treasure out there,” says Tom Powers, president of Boston Harbor Islands Alliance. “We really love to have people come out and check it out. And it is affordable. A family of four can get out there and explore multiple islands for less than $50 for the whole days.”

He also says it’s a quick ferry trip, only 15 minutes to the closest island.

Powers says the rangers do a great job with the tours that include a lot of history and cultural opportunities.
