RI Woman Dies Climbing in India

28-year-old Brown University graduate Kate Goldstein slipped and fell off rock face

A Rhode Island woman has died in a climbing accident in India.

Kate Goldstein, 28, was climbing a rock face when she fell and broke her skull, her brother confirmed Sunday.

She was found dead Saturday.

The Brown University graduate was working for the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladkah at the time of the accident.

Goldstein was a fourth-year student studying architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

"As Kate's family and friends bear this sorrow, we offer the sympathy and support of the MIT community," wrote MIT President in a statement to students. "The death of someone so young and promising is a terrible loss; we should all take time to reach out to those around us."

MIT confirmed that Goldstein had spent the week prior to her June 15 disappearance participating in an energy and development workshop, and that she had planned to help install solar panels at a Buddhist monastery.
