(NECN: Lauren Collins) -  Notorious is too kind a word to describe Whitey Bulger for the families of his alleged victims.

"He has ruined my life and my children's life," says Patricia Donahue of Dorchester.   Her husband, Michael, was shot and killed as he drove one of whitey's targets home in 1982.

"When you surround yourself with idiots it's not difficult to look like you're brilliant.  He doesn't impress me, he never has," says Chris McIntyre, whose brother John was tortured and killed in 1984 - his body found in a grave in Dorchester a decade ago.

Neither family member thought they would see the day when their loved one's alleged killer was captured.

"I just did not think it would ever materialize I thought he would end up dead somewhere," says McIntyre.

"But I'm so glad that finally after all these years the person who pulled the trigger that took my husband's life is apprehended," adds Donahue.

Their emotions vary at the news and their memories of the terror inflicted on them by a fugitive mob boss are revived.  Now they look for justice.  Donahue hopes to see him in jail, but, "you know, he's an old man now so, i mean how much time is he really gonna spend in jail?  You know, this should have happened 16 years ago."

McIntyre says he doesn't feel closure with the arrest, but does have a sense of satisfaction.  And if he had just one moment face to face with the man accused in his brother's death, "I would tell him 'the days of wine and roses are over Whitey,  'cause the only thing you own now is a bar of soap.' "
