Casino Proponents Gather at Mass. Gaming Commission Meeting

Voters in Mass. will decide the fate of the Bay State’s casino gambling law in November

Voters in Massachusetts will decide the fate of the Bay State’s casino gambling law in November, as the Supreme Judicial Court decided Tuesday that a question calling for repeal of the 2011 law will appear on the ballot.

Mohegan Sun hopes to bring a casino to Suffolk Downs in Revere, Massachusetts.

Coincidentally, a meeting was held in Revere by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Tuesday. Hundreds of people were expected to hear the details of the proposed Suffolk Downs casino.

“Right now, obviously, my focus is earning a gaming license here in Region A,” said Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo. “We asked our voters to go out on November 5 to support a referendum. They did. We asked them again to go back out on February 25 of this year. They did and now we find ourselves having to go out in a statewide referendum, so I think the process hasn’t gone quite as smoothly as I would have hoped.”

Other officials have also commented on the decision, including Mohegan Sun.

“We will also join the chorus of others making the case to voters on why this law is goof for workers, good for the economy, and good for the Commonwealth,” Mohegan Sun released in a statement.

Proponents will work to convince Massachusetts residents to vote against the repeal until the November ballot.
