(NECN) -  A legal defeat for a former Boston University student who illegally downloaded and shared songs online.
A federal appeals court upheld a jury $675,000 award against Joel Tenenbaum.
He was sued by music companies who said he violated copyright rules.
The appeals court found Tenenbaum's conduct was "egregious" because he illegally shared songs for years despite numerous warnings.
