MBTA fare hikes go into effect

(NECN) - Riders headed to the T are facing a pricier ride around Boston.

The MBTA has imposed its 23-percent fare hike, in efforts to correct a $160 million deficit.

Charlie Card users must now pay $1.50 to ride the bus and $2 for the subway.

For riders using a paper ticket are now paying $2 for the bus and the subway pays $2.50.

The T is also cutting service to other areas.
