Democratic debate for Mass. 9th Congressional District, Part 1

Thursday, July 05, 2012, 9:40pm
(NECN) - Jim Braude hosted the first debate in the Democratic Primary for Massachusetts 9th Congressional District on Broadside Thursday between William Keating and Sam Sutter.

Keating is the Democratic Congressman for Massachusetts' 10th District, and Sam Sutter is currently the District Attorney of Bristol County.  Both candidates are vying for the new 9th district due to Massachusetts redistricting based on the 2010 census, eliminating one of its House seats.

In this segment, both candidates discussed their ideas and positions on issues, including reducing the national deficit and dealing with unemployment and ways to decrease the issue.

On the issue of decreasing the deficit, Sutter supports cutting military spending and raising taxes on the wealthy. Keating focused on the causes of the deficit and supports exiting Afghanistan and cutting out the Bush tax cut.
